World Pride organisers negotiate gay march date

The Jerusalem Open House (JOH) has responded to Israeli authorities with negotiation after government ministers thwarted plans for a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Pride and Tolerance march in Jerusalem.

Despite this setback Noa Sattah, the executive director of the JOH, issued a rallying call to Israel saying: I call everyone who cares about the future of Jerusalem to come and take part in the march."

PinkNews.co.uk reported last week that Minister for Jerusalem Affairs, Yaakov Edri, told JOH which was organising the march, to hold the gay pride parade outside of the capital city.

Initially, no reason for the demand was given, but then the minister cited "heavy workload" on the police, despite the fact that other public events are taking place as scheduled.

`Gung ho,' gay - and alive today

I am in agreement with William Butte's commentary of Sept. 4 on the military policy of "Don't ask, don't tell." It reminded me of my experience in the U.S. Navy in 1964: 43 years and nothing has changed.

Just out of Catholic high school and in a hurry to become a working adult, I joined the U.S. Navy. I thought the four years would "teach me to be a man" and allow me to get an education and some worldly knowledge.

I was very innocent and, to be sure, quite ignorant about the ways of the world. I was very sexually active with boys all during my school years, even as early as the fourth grade. I liked guys, but didn't consider myself "queer" and had never heard of the term "gay." "Homosexual" was a derogatory dictionary term.

In basic training I decided I would like to go to corps school to become a Navy corpsman.

Polish Gays to Sue Ruling Party

<< In one of the Polish ruling party’s latest anti-gay provocations, Waldemar Bonkowski, a leading Parliament member from the northern city of Koscierzyna, hung a banner in his headquarters reading, in part, “Today it’s gays and lesbians — what’s next, zoophilia… Our Polish pope is looking down from the sky and asking, Whither Goest Thou, Poland?”

BY DOUG IRELAND

Polish gays are fighting back against the notoriously homophobic new government there, announcing plans to sue the ruling Law and Justice Party over two fresh examples of homophobic propaganda.

In one incident, Pawel Zyzak, editor in chief of a party bulletin, Right Turn!, wrote that gays are “animals” and were “the emissaries of Satan sent to destroy the Catholic Church.” Poland is the most heavily Catholic country in Europe, and the Church was strengthened for more than a decade before the fall of communism by the papacy of John Paul II.
