ESTHER'S FOLLIES PRESENTS QUEERTOWN AUSTIN

They're here! They're Funny! Get used to it! This summer, Austin theatre goers will find a little pot of gold at the end of an extremely colorful rainbow. Queertown-the infamous sketch comedy and music revue that has taken Texas by storm-is setting up shop for a permanent monthly run at the legendary Esther's Follies Theatre in downtown Austin.

Queertown blends original social/political satire with improvisation and song to create a unique, hilarious perspective of gay life in the USA. The cabaret of characters finds themselves caught in a land that exists somewhere between Ellen, Kids in the Hall, and a bizarro gay pride parade. The audience is invited to embrace the more flamboyant side of "Gaybraham" Lincoln, see what cops REALLY DO when they're alone in their patrol cars, and experience the dancing Lucy Liu's.

A Bit of An Explanation

Don't be startled. As you can see, we've undergone some changes. We popped in for a little nip, a little tuck, and here we are: ready to roll for some new things here at Queerty. In addition to our daily words of wisdom – if you can call them that – we'll be delving a little deeper, taking on new topics each month. Thus, we bring you the first installment of “The Narcissist Issue."

Gay people get a lot of shit for being narcissistic, for loving ourselves a little too much. This comes as no surprise. So many of today's – and yesterday's – gay icons have gained recognition for being primped fashion mavens; or, like today's Morning Goods, Peter Berlin, for flaunting their exceptional beauty. Sure, there are plenty of famous gay people whose fame rests less on their aesthetic and more on their talent, but even they shine with the glow of cosmetic awareness.

What are gays trying to prove?

What is the homosexual community trying to prove by renewing its insistance on holding a gay pride march through downtown Jerusalem?

Homosexual activists and their apologists claim they are "merely trying to realize their democratic rights," and in theory they are right: Gays have as much right to parade down Jaffa Road and King George Street as Jews have to march down Fifth Avenue.

But less than a month ago, the homosexual community demonstrated both its right to hold a gay pride festival in Jerusalem and its ability to do so in a way that caused little or no offense to the large majority of Jerusalemites who strongly opposd the march that was scheduled to cap off the festival but was cancelled due to the Lebanon War.

Ken condemns police ‘failures’ at Estonia gay pride march

The Mayor of London has added his voice to the criticism of police and politicians who failed to protect gay and lesbians from attack during a gay rights parade in Estonia.

Ken Livingstone slammed the authorities in the capital, Tallinn, calling their lack of action inexcusable.

Having permitted the parade, and being aware of the potential for violence, Tallinn City Council and the city's police should have taken all reasonable steps to robustly defend the fundamental human rights of those taking part, the Mayor said in a statement today.

At last weekends gay pride march around 15 people were injured after being attacked by groups of skinheads with sticks and stones while celebrating the countrys third gay pride event.

This follows a series of far-right attacks on gay rights events across Eastern Europe and Russia.
